The Baron Theater is Lincoln Center’s new addition to its campus. A 6.6-hectare complex of buildings, the Lincoln Center is home to such buildings as the Metropolitan Opera, the New York Philharmonic, and The Juilliard School. By the summer of 2028, it will be home to the open-air Baron Theater, containing up to 2000 seats within a new community park, the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) Gardens.

Besides providing a unique setting for the performing arts, the project also has communal and environmental importance. The project held consultations with residents, school staff and students, and civic leaders. The establishment of the park prioritizes accessibility and provides a welcoming experience for the arts. Through individual donors, foundations, and corporations, $335 million was raised for the project’s construction.

The groundbreaking ceremony took place last May 11. Attendance was marked by community leaders, artists, and donors. Performances celebrating the cultural legacy of the Lincoln Center included a reading of poet Mahogany L. Brownes poem The Future We Create.
